The amount of firepower that the Germans can bring to the buildings pretty much demand this.

Having the leaderless troops outside amongst the other buildings does act as an effective barrier to slow the Germans down and reduce their effectiveness by casualties.

where there is an area for consideration is whether to take two squads away from the outside role and also star them off inside the two fortifications, so that they have greater resilience, especially with their good morale values, but that would leave 2 empty buildings that the Germans could easily occupy and use as fire bases. So there are some set-up considerations, but rather fancy the Soviet Order-of-Battle has been designed to be used with the 8 buildings.
Normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05031444717952755557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-87737256377596912462018-07-10T01:56:57.126+00:002018-07-10T01:56:57.126+00:00Very exciting narrative and I could sense the tens...Very exciting narrative and I could sense the tension build as the Germans tried to position themselves for an assault against either strongpoint.

I like the notion of the "cannot assault strongpoint unless defender shaken" rule. Makes the attacker expend a lot of effort into suppressing the defender to the point of nullifying any advantage the attacker may have in simply storming the place.

Is the optimal Soviet setup response to put both leaders in each of the strongpoints or would having one outside of the buildings be a better use of keeping the supporting troops effective and active?

Great stuff, Norm! I am guessing in a typical game, one of the two strongpoints would fall and the balance for play comes from whether the second one will.

We are fighting down the Prokhorovka road for the next scenario.
