I am part of the organising team. We do not specify what the displays bring apart from asking for participation games where possible. Some manufacturers bring ab demo table but these are getting less common. This year it turned out that the four large games on the ground floor were 28mm. Upstairs the participation games were mostly 28mm but there was a Spanish civil war tank race in 15mm and a post apocalyptic auto duel game using matchbox cars. I am glad you enjoyed the show and hope to see you on the first Sunday in February next year.ArmouredHunterMasterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00168353041630573144noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-69819580186280917922018-02-05T16:20:42.613+00:002018-02-05T16:20:42.613+00:00I was interested in your post because from your pi...I was interested in your post because from your pictures, you pretty much liked the things I liked and from the same view and your swag looked quite focussed to immediate need. Vapnartak is probably the most trade focussed show I attend, Hammerhead the most game orientated and the likes of Phalanx, Recon and West Mids closer to a 50 / 50 mix. For my own preference,, I llike a strong trade presence, but I really want to see games as they do motivate spend. Kallistra always have a display game in front of their counter as do Peter Pig, but not at York, as I am guessing that most space is ear-marked for traders.Normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05031444717952755557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-47921989618904010712018-02-05T09:25:18.190+00:002018-02-05T09:25:18.190+00:00York is usually the furthest south we come for a s...York is usually the furthest south we come for a show but agree with many of the points, there was fewer games on display than normal with at least 4 areas that usually have had one in the past all empty. The lack of rules for sale was also very much noted as I'd set aside my spare cash from budget for picking up a rule set dependent on what was available and I didn't find anything from my list. Dave Thomas's selection seemed much reduced, and Ainsty had a few osprey titles and some others, but everything else was from the traders own range. Last year, one of my main wants from the phalanx show was Dave Brown’s General d’ Armee, no-one had it and it made me accutely aware how thin on the ground rule sets were. Since, across several shows, I have experienced the same.

Also strange, is the issue of scale diversity at shows and in magazines, both run the risk of losing this section of their audience as it becomes better served by on-line content and support.

Many years ago at Sheffield Triples, two blokes put on a north west France ‘44 armour game and its scope turned me onto the small scale for armour actions for all those years since then. Likewise (can’t remember where) a napoleonic game in 10mm on a 4’ x 4’ table had a similar impact. I can still fully visualise both games and not many games can do that. The small scales are very important to the fabric of the hobby and yet some media seem to by efault easily airbrushed it out.Normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05031444717952755557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-59606699549382984592018-02-04T22:36:01.729+00:002018-02-04T22:36:01.729+00:00Thanks for the look in. At Colours last year it was noticeable that not many stands were selling rulebooks, which was commented on several times during the day.
