I was thinking for 20mm of doing my infantry sections on 50mm bases, with three to a platoon giving a 150mm unit frontage. I don’t think the vehicles are a big deal because you don’t use that many of them. My current 10mm figs are on 40mm bases, so those platoons have 120mmm frontages anyway - well more really, as I had gaps between the sections. The rules helpfully suggest that if using larger figures, having bases adjacent without gaps might help.

I should re-run this scenario in the same space with 20mm just to see what that looks and feels like while things are fresh in my mind. Terrain wise, things should roughly cover the same ground without outrageous differences. The rail track would just be an inch wider, I would cut back on the number of roads (which doesn’t matter anyway) and I would likely represent Strassengabel with a single large building, rather than the three 10mm ones, in practical terms that won’t matter as the footprint should stay roughly the same. Anyway, I will have a look at that.Normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05031444717952755557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-80723261248106533242021-09-11T21:39:38.227+00:002021-09-11T21:39:38.227+00:00Great stuff Norm, you are certainly selling O Grou...Great stuff Norm, you are certainly selling O Group a lot better than the official videos did. Basically anything that could obscure, gets a spotting die added to the roll. So if the target is in a BUA or scrub or partially blocked by wood etc. Then it is just a 50 / 50 thing, no mods. You will either roll spotted or obscured. If spotted then everything is just normal. If obscure, it is the testing against hits that is modified, you just have two different columns to roll on for results.

For general fire, you typically move one point on the die for average troops if obscured, so say need 3+ to save instead of 4+, but they also use the mechanic to highlight the difference in how green troops or elites can or can’t make best use of terrain. For vehicles, the same principle exists, you just move one effect, so for example of obscured the shot might be no effect, but if spotted you might suffer 1 Shock. So the impact on vision is present, but it does not dominate.

The ‘saving roll’ has interest. In anti armour, you take the difference between the gun and armour, look on the spotted or obscured line and then roll. The dice is bringing in all those other variances without a shed load of rules.Normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05031444717952755557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-32269639131710489752021-09-11T13:10:30.936+00:002021-09-11T13:10:30.936+00:00Very thorough report on the rules, Norm. So a platoon on the table will comprise of three bases and they fire as a platoon (i.e. 3 sections combine at 2D6 each), suffer casualties as a platoon and move as a platoon, so with a battalion of infantry and some supports, you might feel like you are actually managing say 12 units per side.

There are few modifiers, so processes are quite slick and quickly learned. I agree that BKCII does a fine job. Normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05031444717952755557noreply@blogger.com
