During movement, cavalry can move up to the line and then pull away. A test is taken and Fyrd may be pulled off the slopes .... but there is a sting in the tail, as the cavalry itself may come to harm.

It is risky rather than certain, so the Norman player will tend to only deploy it when all else is failing .... as in the real battle.Normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05031444717952755557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-74580876019603489392021-10-16T00:04:53.477+00:002021-10-16T00:04:53.477+00:00Ah, what an important historical event - at least ...Ah, what an important historical event - at least I still think so.DeanMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07724268555970663130noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-78874728149838003342021-10-15T23:05:05.464+00:002021-10-15T23:05:05.464+00:00A hard slog (as it should be) and your self design...A hard slog (as it should be) and your self designed game seems to handle the historical version with some aplomb - I particularly like the way you handle the archers and the idea of calling a "lull" if required - do you also have a mechanism for the reported Norman tactic of false retreats to tempt the Saxons off the hill?rrosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07316317334203888350noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-48060010067863528482021-10-15T22:14:55.830+00:002021-10-15T22:14:55.830+00:00Thanks Phil, it does get regular attention :-)Thanks Phil, it does get regular attention :-)Normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05031444717952755557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-52070179447057110192021-10-15T15:41:18.532+00:002021-10-15T15:41:18.532+00:00Nice celebration, a most famous battle to play and...Nice celebration, a most famous battle to play and play again!Philhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08913029478686087197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-67377031433913238592021-10-15T13:44:58.774+00:002021-10-15T13:44:58.774+00:00Thanks Stew, I’m pretty sure that this year there ...Thanks Stew, I’m pretty sure that this year there was a big re-enactment down at the actual battlefield in front of the Abbey.Normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05031444717952755557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-76678056651421870302021-10-15T13:34:42.926+00:002021-10-15T13:34:42.926+00:00That’s a nice way to mark the anniversary. 😀That’s a nice way to mark the anniversary. 😀Stewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00340930167419307092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-30744182346940053292021-10-15T11:13:25.523+00:002021-10-15T11:13:25.523+00:00Happy Birthday Phil, I hope you got a bit of a hau...Happy Birthday Phil, I hope you got a bit of a haul at Partizan ready for the occasion. :-)Normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05031444717952755557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-68044021818414533042021-10-15T09:03:08.384+00:002021-10-15T09:03:08.384+00:00Nice of you to celebrate my birthday Norm :~)Nice of you to celebrate my birthday Norm :~)Phil Robinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14951076081660516802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5368677310334370714.post-21103982085043684832021-10-14T21:59:22.022+00:002021-10-14T21:59:22.022+00:00Hi Iain, when I first started work on this project...Hi Iain, when I first started work on this project, the idea was that it would be a solitaire game, with ‘the system’ playing Harold’s army, as my initial view was that playing Harold would not be much fun for one of the players …. but, it quickly became apparent that constantly managing the line to be resilient and taking opportunities to counter-attack, did in fact make it a good two player experience, with both players each having a different challenge and so it became a two player game, but works fine for one player to manage both sides.
