1st Bio-Tech (sci-fi)

1st Bio-Tech.

In Miniature Wargames Issue 390, I presented a Sci-Fi article concerning an alien incursion in a small town environment. The article had a background narrative and a set of rules. It also ran three linked scenarios, that followed 'C' company from 1st Bio-Tech, as they initially entered the town and then progressed to various objectives to defeat the Alien incursion.

This blog post gives access to the rules part of that article as a free download and covers a new simple AAR, done in a narrative style (because the mechanics are covered elsewhere - links below). There is also some discussion on creating a town environment in hexes.

Containment - Alien Invasion

If you fancy a project that is both quick to complete and relatively cheap, then a marine V's alien encounter might just fit the bill.
The October 2015 issue of Miniature Wargames magazine (issue 390) had my Sci-Fi submission based around an alien incursion and the forces deployed to deal with it. The article offers a background narrative, game rules and thee linked scenarios.
This post provides an overview of my most recent game using the same system, forces and scenarios outlined in the magazine article.

Sci-fi game in Miniature Wargames

On Friday 25th September 2015, Miniature Wargames magazine will appear on the shelves of high street newsagents and I am mentioning that here because this particular issue contains a submission of mine.
Called containment, the general storyboard is that there has been an alien incursion in the UK and a specialst unit has been deployed to 'contain' these rather viscious warriors.

The article gives some background information, three linked scenarios and a set of rules. The games were played out on Kallistra hexed terrain using a town setting with Pendraken's 10mm sci-fi forces (plus a home-made 'seeder' or two).
The whole action is contained within a hex grid measuring 8 wide by 6 deep, fitting onto a large pinboard. Gamers can easily convert to squares or just use an open board.
There is an earlier post here (see link in the Resource secion below) that covers the putting together of the of the Pendraken sci-fi forces.
I obviously can't repeat the rules here, or use the photographs submitted to the magazine, but hopefully those interested will pick up a copy. The below link gives an idea what is in this month's issue, I think there is plenty there to like.

Building Sci-Fi forces in 10mm

At the Phalanx wargame show this year, I picked up a couple of Sci-Fi armies from Pendraken. One being a Marine army and the other looking suitably Alien.
Marine Dreadnought

The armies are relatively small, cheap and paint up really quickly, so make the ideal starter project that is more likely to be seen through to a conclusion.

Please use the 'read more' tab for the rest of this post looks at how the armies were put together, with a few shots of them in action.
